Now accepting student art submissions!

Tap into your artistic expression to convey the importance of the ocean and how our personal actions affect the ocean! Submissions of original two-dimensional artwork will be accepted at regional Coastal Ecosystem Learning Centers throughout the country, including at the Hatfield Marine Science Center.

This contest is open to all students in the U.S.

There are five age groups and two art categories in which to compete. Each winner's artwork will reflect one of the Seven Essential Principles of Ocean Literacy. Check out the Coastal America website for details, and if HMSC is the Coastal Ecosystem Learning Center that is closest to your home, be sure to send us your entry before the December 20, 2011 deadline.

Regional winners will be entered in the National contest, and the National grand prize winners will be recognized with special non-monetary awards, including travel to Washington D.C. for a public ceremony.

Any questions, contact Kathryn Hawes ~ Marine Education Assistant here or call 541-867-0233

My name is Carolyn Currey, and I’m the marketing coordinator for Little Dozen Press. Below is a contest that is of particular interest to homeschoolers.

Rachel Starr Thomson is the author of the Seventh World Trilogy, a fantasy in the tradition of George MacDonald, C.S. Lewis, and other great Christian writers. She’s also a homeschool graduate and the oldest of twelve kids. The first book in the trilogy, Worlds Unseen, is available as a free download from Smashwords.

To promote creativity and initiative in young readers, we’re running a Book Trailer Contest. Participants are invited to film and post their own book trailer for Worlds Unseen online. The winner will also be featured on Rachel’s writing website. There is no entry fee, and teamwork is allowed and encouraged!

All submissions must be in by 12:00 PM, December 1, 2011

Contest rules:
PRIZE: $100.00 + full set of Seventh World trilogy and be featured on Rachel's website.

Book trailer must be three minutes or less. All filming must be your original work—no using clips from anyone else.

Contest open to ages 11 – 21.

Download Worlds Unseen today and unleash your creativity!

To submit a trailer, upload your submission to YouTube, and send an email to Rachel Thomson here including your name(s), age(s), address, email address, and link to your submission.
